Basic Functions
The XMap Help Topics include instructions for using all of the basic and advanced functions of
XMap. To access the Help Topics, click the Help button on the toolbar and then click Help
Topics.
Navigating the Map
There are multiple ways you can navigate the map:
•UsetheNavigationtooltoclickthelocationonwhichyouwanttocenterthemap.
•Usethegrab-and-pantoolonthetoolbartodragthemapinanydirection.
•Usethesearchfeatures in the Find tab to center the map on your location of
interest.
•Double-clickalayerinyourGISworkspacetocenterthemaponthatlayer.
•DragtheviewboxintheOverviewMaptocenterthemaponthelocationyouwant.
Zooming the Map In or Out
XMapincludesseveralmethodsforzoomingthemapinorout:
•Drag-and-zoommapcontrols—withtheNavigationtoolselected,left-clickanddrag
themouseinadown-rightdirectiontozoominordragthemouseinanup-left
directiontozoomout.Tomovetheviewboxtoanotherlocation,presstheSHIFT
key at any time during this procedure without switching back to the Navigation tool.
•ManuallyadjustthedatazoomlevelwiththeDataZoomscrollboxintheControl
Panel.
•UsethezoomtoolsintheControlPaneltozoomthemapinonelevel,outonelevel,
or out three levels.
•PressALT+PAGEUPonyourkeyboardtozoomouttothenextfulldatazoomlevel.
PressALT+PAGEDOWNonyourkeyboardtozoomintothenextfulldatazoom
level.
•Rotatethemousewheel(ifavailable)tozoominbyindividualdatazoomlevelsteps
orholdtheSHIFTkeywhilerotatingthemousewheeltozoomtothenextfulldata
